Our day began around noon in Miami by driving to South Beach. Parking was quite scarce and we drove in circles and sat around waiting for 5 minutes at one point when we found out we were lucky enough to get a parking spot at a club at the furthest point south in Miami Beach.
From there we got out and walked straight to the beach, only to find signs saying that no animals are allowed on the beach. Since we didn't want to tempt anyone to hand us a $500 fine, we decided to walk to a nicer path nearby and see if we could get a good picture there.
While we did get a few good pictures of the beach, it wasn't quite what we had hoped for. From that point at South Beach, we decided to walk north and check out the rest of Miami Beach. We walked alongside the dunes on the opposite side of the beach and ended up running into Carol, a very nice lady who had lived in Miami for most of her life.
She was nice enough to walk with us and talk to us about Miami and her travels around the world while we spoke of ours. She also encouraged us to walk up on the beachside near the dunes, feeling confident nobody would really mind. As it turned out later, we walked along the beach after the sun began to set and there were many dogs out there. In any case, we arrived at a point where she needed to go on her way, so we thanked her for her hospitality and hope to hear from her again.
From there we decided to walk throught he art deco area of Miami Beach and see more of the architectural history. We also stopped by Fat Tuesdays and Wet Willie's. The sidewalks were packed, likely because it was spring break for college students, and there was a very big party atmosphere.
Later as it began to get dark, we walked back down to the southern tip of the beach and watched the sun set against the Miami skyline. Following that, we went to check out the club scene at the place we had parked. We were only in the outside portion, but it sure looked like people were "getting their groove on".
We headed back to our hotel in Coral Gables after that, finally spending a 2nd night in one city.
