Virginia Beach to Arlington
We started the 12th in Virginia Beach after arriving there on the 11th from Florence, South Carolina. We spent the night at our new friend Bello's place near the beach.
We decided to head out, walk around Virginia Beach with Shawn, a columnist from the Virginia-Pilot. She had written us after seeing our videos and website and wanted to meet us and possibly do an article.
Our first stop was to see the beautiful Cavalier Hotel. It looked quite magnificent and seemed to be a top landmark in VA Beach other than the beach. After seeing that, we hit the boardwalk by the beach, soaking in the sun, covering our ears when military jets passed over and stopping for the ocassional photo op. The highlights along the beach other than the beach itself were the huge concrete beach balls, a large cement sand castle and a huge statue of Neptune.
We headed back to Bello's house, took some photos and said our goodbyes as we headed out for Richmond.
On our way to Richmond we stopped at a McDonald's and met Harry, Loren, Rich and Greg from IBU-25 driving in a large camoflauge truck. As it turns out, they serve in the United States military and we assume were heading to West Point, which was nearby. They were generous enough to take time and pose for a photo with us. Thanks goes out to them.
Not much longer after that, we arrived in Richmond and walked around the Capitol building there, which is currently undergoing a very large renovation. We did a full circle around the building, stopping at the front attempting to capture it's beauty.
Knowing that we had to be to Arlington, VA, we didn't have much more time to spend in Richmond, so we headed to our van, got in and headed off to our final destination for the night. We arrived and spent the rest of the night relaxing in our room, resting up for the big day in DC.
