Sears Tower in Chicago
The previous day we traveled from Southfield, Michigan through Ann Arbor with a quick stop at the University of Michigan and Battle Creek, Michigan, home of Kellogg's and Tony the Tiger. From there we drove to Chicago, checked into the hotel and relaxed for the day.
On the 25th, we planned to go to the Sears Tower for a special tour. We noticed from our hotel room that the weather was very overcast compared to the previous day. We waited out the weather and later in the day made our way to the Sear's Tower by walking along the river.
We entered the side of the building for the Skydeck tours and after talking with security about our special arrangement, we took the elevator down to get our tickets and watch a movie about the history of Sears and how the Tower was built.
Then we proceeded up the elevator, which also played a little movie on a large screen above us. Once we arrived at the top, we were stunned by the awesome, albeit overcast-limited view of Chicago. We peaked over the ledge out of the 101st floor from the Skydeck and gazed upon the city. We imagined for a moment the vast distance to be seen on a clear day. Of course, given that it was zero visibility earlier in the day, we felt lucky to be able to see the few miles that we could.
We wandered slowly around the 101st floor attempting to take it all in. Stopping to see the expansive Lake Michigan, gazing at the 2nd tallest building in Chicago (Hancock Center), peering down towards Soldier Field where the Bears play, and then east towards the United Center where the Bulls play.
It was amazing knowing we were in one of the tallest buildings in the world and we are certainly thankful for the opportunity to truly see the beauty of Chicago from the Skydeck.
We then walked back to our hotel, first attempting to stop and see Millenium Park, which we're told is quite nice. We also found out that there are no dogs allowed in this park, so we headed back, happy at least Sears Tower let us in.
